Scag Gear box problem

I have a scag 36 belt driven walk behind mower. The mower wants to do circles. what I found is the right side output shaft coming from the gearbox moves slighty outward and causing the shaft to not make complete contact inside the gearbox. With the mower off and in gear I can turn the shaft and feel that it's slipping inside the gearbox, if I push the shaft in all the way it feels fine no slipping. Is this a common problem, and is it an easy fix?

I had the same problem with my snapper 48 w/b. On the output end of the shaft, INSIDE the metal work of the machine frame, you will find a groove on the outside of the shaft. There is supposed to be a clip in the groove, That is to stop the shaft from moving outwards, as yours is doing. Stop by the repair shop with your mower numbers, and they will be able to help you out. Or, remove the axle and go to the PIC-A-NUT section of the hardware store, and they will be able to help you out...JIM.
