Need opinions.....

I created a fall display for my parents yesterday. They both loved it,but today think it's too "gaudy" looking.Since this was my first,I'd like others opinions.Heck,if I can't please the folks, what are potential customers gonna think?
Front lawn is 20,000 sf and the display is located at the left/rear of the front lawn near their home.I'm thinking someone said something to them considering alot of the other homeowners seem to compete(talk about) one another.Thing is,no other landscape has ANY color in them. All green, all the time.(Low maintenance) Cars actually slow down to look at my parents landscaping because it stands out so much with color and the fact I put a fountain with pond in the front.Neighbors ask me how to care for their lawns and comment on how good the striping looks. One actually requests that the stripes be directed toward their home so they can see them out the front door. This is weird.I thought it turned out pretty good(not to toot my own horn, just pleased with the results.)
Thanks.
Pic is a close up,100 feet from the road.

It looks good in the photo you show but it's sort of hard to really tell without a picture of the surrounding area.
Okay, I may knit pick a little so before I do, I'll give it a 9 out of 10.

I would put a few more pumpkins in and group them a bit.

I don't think it looks gaudy. It's a halloween/fall display for cryng out loud! LOL! Now if you went with all kinds of goofy store bought plastic displays and stuck them all over the lawn, that would be a little much. Yours looks great. Your parents should be proud of that display.

Thanks guys.I drove over to my parents home to see if today it looked too "gaudy".Still looked the same to me.Talked to mom(who was the main culprit) and she thought it had too much straw. After I took her to the road, she agreed it needed to be large.I was wrong in that no one had talked to her.It was just what she thought, but she came around.Had me worried that I had really messed something up,but possibly my own bias wouldn't let me see it.
Oh!One of her neighbors actually called to compliment her on it.lol!
Took some pics of the kids(the two to the right are mine) last night in front of it while we were having a little family get together. Those pics are next.
Take care
NickN

I guess I'll be the first here to be critical.. It kinda looks thown together and there is no flow. You need more flowers (group some together) and pumpkins (biggest you can find). The straw is dwarfing everything. Nice try for first attempt though.....

Exactly everything that Tom said. Also, add a little height. Get some cornstalks and bundle them and set them off to the side (left). Put th e flowers in groups. When they are all mixed up, it just takes away from them. I see landscapers do this all the time with annuals. They don't have large enough blocks of color. It appears large enough when yuo are standing near it, but it's a whole different thing when you are driving by at a distance. All in all though,...nice job!

Thanks guys.I didn't put any cornstalks in for heigth since the trees are 40-50 feet tall in the bed.I figured I needed less height.
Pumpkins, mums, gourds, daisies were picked out by my mother.I just tried to use what she had available.I see how the grouping of the plants could have been better.I probably should of grouped the pumpkins together more and the mums more together.
Thanks for the comments.Something to improve upon.
