If you don't see a spark when its warm and will not run then it is the coil. I would say if you replace it, it will run fine since the head gasket didn't solve the problem.

Replaced the coil this afternoon. Seemed to fix the problem. The test will be working with it all day Tuesday.

I have an 8hp also but I love the 5HP for its lighter weight when working on hills.
