How do you guys get more yards to mow?

This is my third year in the mowing business and I am slowly getting more yards. I just wanted to see how some of you have added more yards to your business' over the years.

-Best way is word of mouth
-Give your loyal customers 3 extra biz cards in the spring ask them to pass them out to neighbours, or anyone they know looking for lawn care needs
-Send out a mass-flyer in EARLY SPRING evey yr. to the specific area that you are trying to target
That's what i've being doin for the pass 3 yrs. and is working just fine for me!

Didn't you just post this same thread under a different title a little while ago? Did you not like the answers that were given to you on that one?

yup, word of mouth is still the best. If you are doing great quality work, customers will roll into to you

1. Word of mouth as said already.
2. I use a local paper that targets only the areas that I can ecomonically handle. Rates are very reasonable and i get consistant calls in spring and summer.
3. When bidding to help out with the word of mouth i always hand out 3-4 extra cards.

So far this has been my approach and I have grown because of it.

Got a couple new ideas for me anyway such as door flyers, other papers, to try this spring. Hopefully will help more.

Referrals are #1. Easiest sell and no bickering on the price. We have NEVER advertised in 11 years.

Referrals have worked great for us over the years last year we gave $20 credit for a referral.

We got on to ANGIE"S LIST back in 2001 and they give my name out like crazy.

Rodfather-- Angies List is a service some lady started years ago to help homeowners from receiving bad service from contractors,so if you are a member lets say you need a plumber, painter, mover, landscaper you name it and it is on the list but heres the catch somebody has to put you on that list you can't pay to be put on it.Most of the people that are on it know what they are looking for when they call. After you provide a service they can rate you in like 6 or 7 different category's the better the ratings the better your standing with them and they will give your name out more even if you don't advertise. You can also earn awards with them like I did in 2001 & 2002 if you get enough members to leave a good rating for you. Also if you earn the awards it allows you to get cheaper advertising with the award you received in you ad.
This service is in several U.S. city's.
