NAPA parts are OK, they are really Prime Line rebadged. You can get a +.030 but not in a total rebuild kit, get the parts separately.

from the measurements you gave it is .022 oversize this seams like a lot of wear already i`d check again. to bore .030 over would get it if your measurement's are right. napa is a good place to get it bored don't let them bore it to fit the piston make them bore it to the right spec. from Kohler . make sure you wash the bore and case good take a white paper towel wipe cyl. if any gray wash again usually takes 5to6 washings

Simple Green is a good cleaner to use on engine blocks and such. Helps to break up all the shavings and stuff and get them out.

why not take piston to machine shop

The bore on a new engine is suppose to be between 3.2505 to 3.2515 so if i do not take the piston with me should i tell them to bore between 3.2802 to 3.2815

Also, have them bore it to the piston you will use. This is a feel thing, got to have the piston to feel it.

I always order the piston and rings first, there is usually a paper in it that tells the spec. to bore it to. you should get it bored to this spec. not to the piston if its bored to small the piston will get hot and might seize, ring end gap will be to small and you will have to file them to fit. if they bore to big the piston will tip back and forth in cyl. and make motor noisy ring end gap will be to wide and use oil. I had both of these happen until I insisted they bore it to spec.

I find when using OEM parts that boring to specs usually will work well. Using aftermarket is another story. I find that leaving aftermarket a bit tight works well because they tend to wear in more slowly and once broken in they are just right. Blanket statements about how to bore really is impossible when you consider the use of aftermarket vs. OEM and when you get to aluminum without an iron liner you had better leave it a bit tight. Like I said earlier, its a feel thing, one doesn't even need to know the spec when you have the piston in hand.

Go ahead and rebuild the engine and ignor those statements about cost and short blocks. For the past several years, the manufacturers have brain washed everone into believing that the cost of parts and machining will exceed the short block price. It is simply not true. Of course, one would not want to rebuild an engine for a $100 push mower, but on an expensive piece of equipment, the rebuild is almost always the least expensive route to take.
