Hiring a commission salesman

We are currently in the process of hiring a part time salesman. We are a blower truck company who recently purchased a EB60 yard truck and are looking for someone in the industry to back us up and bring in some larger accounts. We don't know what the going rate is for commission. Does anybody have a commission salesman for this type of business, and what percentage does one get. We have discussed a base pay plus commission. What should we offer him?
