John Deere walk behind

I Have Found A John Deere 48 Inch 17 Horsepower Kawasaki Walkbehind For $1500. It Has About 800 Hours And Comes With A Velke. I Think It Is About A 1996 Model Because It Has The Yellow Deck. Do You All Think It Is Worth It. I Am Just Starting Out.

Is it a hydro drive or a belt drive? If it is a belt drive NO WAY!!!! I'm not sure if I would consider it even if it is a hydro. 1996 with approx. 800 hours, I think you could find a newer machine with fewer hours for about the same money.

That seems a little bit on the high side. With 400 hours or less, a good price for a 96. But with 800 hours I'd be very careful and really check that engine good.

im pretty sure it is a belt drive. i posted the same thing on another forum and they acted like it was not that many hours for that year and a good price. i have searched for some cheaper used ones around here but cant seem to find any where do you all suggest to look for used ones??

Are you sure its 800 hours, I fail to see the big concern here, what engine is on it? staying on the lean side figure you mow for 20 hrs a week. thats only 40 weeks work. if a kohler,B/S commercial, kaw or handa can't make a season and a half something is wrong.
If that motor was maintained it should be able to make 3k, it's barely broke in.

oops, my mistake, i missed the specs there. 17 hp kaw. I f its been maintained it should have a lot of life left in it. It would make a great starter or back up machine, belt drive, i've not seen much better pricing anywhere. everything i look at is 2k+, check it over good, if its a good machine GRAB IT AND GROWL!
