Printer Recommendations

I know that this subject gets touched on quite a bit in other threads but I thought it would be nice to consolidate some of the info in one place.

Can you folks tell me who you use to print advertising like flyers, postcards and doorhangers?

What are the best prices that you've found? Local or online?

Hey Digital what kind of business are you in? All you have posted so far is about printing.

Actually I work in the entertainment industry doing light marketing. My father, however, owns a small landscaping firm in the L.A. area. It often falls to me to design his marketing materials so I like to lurk around this forum picking up tips whenever I can. The wealth of knowledge on this board is amazing!!

Because I have such little experience I figured that I'd go straight to the horses mouth. You guys probably have printed hundreds of print jobs so, who better to ask? I usually don't chime in because I'm not involved with my father's day-to-day business and really don't have the knowledge. My goal is to simply help him pick up new business via decently laid-out advertisng materials and save a couple bucks in the process.

Cap - That sounds great for smaller jobs but does it get expensive if you wanted to do a run of doorhangers? Would printing commercially be significantly cheaper?

I guess it would depend on how you set up your pages..multiple copies on one page, print quality, and type of paper. If you're printing hundreds..yes probably more then if you had then done at a printing store, but not sure. I print all my own stuff but I'm not that big so I can get by for right now.

Get a good used HP 4500 Color Laser of Ebay.

I paid $400 last year. They have refillable toner cartridges.

Pretty cheap. I put in 500 sheets before I go to bed and pick them up in the morning.

Print prints great and 4 pages / min in full color. It does 12 pages / min in B&W.

It also work greats for professional quotes and invoices. With color laser there is never any smearing of ink when they get damp.

i have to ask this: how is posting the same thing that gets posted 10 times a day in other threads any different than "consolidating" it here? if you use the search function, use the term "printing flyers" and you'll see some amazing consolidation.

i guess i'm on a roll today...
