Adding Side To Dump Trailer
I think after all i have decided to keep my 6'x1-' Cam dump trailer. I have decided to add sides to it. So, my question is, how high to go? I ONLY haul horse manure and wood shavings (sawdust) in it, so it is pretty light. My dad and I have drawn up some plans for frames and such. Would 5' or 6' side be OK with a proper frame? It will be 100% enclosed with a door on the side for a ramp to get into the the trailer and a swinging door in the back over the gate. We will be getting rid of the "spreader" gate that we have now and get a barn door gate. We will also be putting a roof on it. My dad is really good at carpentry and has 40 years of experience, so I am not worried about that.

Does anybody have any iseas for a gate for the back? The trailer currently has a spreader gate and I want to put on a barn door gate, but it might not be able to be done according to my dealer. Anybody ever custom fabbed a gate. I don't want to have to take the gate off everytime to dump the trailer.

I'm going to throw walls on mine this weekend. 3 ft walls, on 7x14. Barn style doors though.

My buddy made a gate for his that was say 5 ft high and swung open to one side. had a little chain and hook, so it would stay when the dump went up. Wood is fine for the sides, but where the gate will swing and attach he used some steel square tubing from Reisners. Pretty much the same setup you see on the 10 wheel dumps when the're hauling stumps. Running a peice of steel up each side, and just welding in some plate to lenghten the gate you have now would work too. Probobly get that nice loud slam when you dump and pull away too.

Same with me, building the up the trailer Saturday and racing Sunday... rain both days. Go figure. I can still build up the trailer in my shop, but I can't do anything about the racing end.

Looks great. I really like your trailer. I remember the pics when you first got it. My dad and I finally got ours done this afternoon. It is really strong. I think the trailer will die before the box. We went way over the top with it, but it is so perfect for our needs. When we work together, everything has to be perfect. It is now 6'x10'x8'. It is one hell of a big trailer. We needed it to be fully enclosed and it had a roof on it now. In the end it took over 15 hours to build, but it came out amazing. I'll post the pics tomorrow in the pics section.
