Caller wants to "update my company info"??

I'm sick of these out of area numbers calling my business, who want to "update their national business data base". What the heck is this anyway. I just hang up. Like I'm going to start giving company info to some unknown caller. Do any of you get these calls?

Usually they want you to buy something as well. A few years back I had the Republicans calling me. They wanted me to pay $300 to get my name in a newspaper ad supporting W, and I might have a chance to meet him as well. At first I was all excited about it, but when they got to the point where they needed the $300, I hung up on them. They called back 3 more times after that.

I get them all the time.

The last time I got one I said, "I'm sorry I don't even have a telephone", while of course talking to the guy on the one he called me on and the dumbazz said, "Oh, okay I'm sorry" and hung up

Well, actually I had a call from the local phone book rep the other day. I do not have a phone book ad as they are not cost effective for the revenue they generate.

She said "I picked up one of your cards.....", so I politely asked her to put my card back that I had posted them to gain business not to be sold too. I then explained that if her rates had been lower she might have gotten a new customer...

LOL

I just got one of those calls, too. I noticed the caller id didn't post the number, first red flag. A long pause after I answered, second red flag. I couldn't understand half of what they were saying due to the accent (no offense meant here) which was the third red flag. I hung up on them, but they keep calling. So finally I decide to talk so they quit calling. I asked the lady if this is going to cost me anything, anything at all. She insists that they're just updating their records for the local phone book. I listened to the whole thing and then the last sentence she asks if I was authorized to make changes (with a hurry up paced talking speed). So I had to ask again what she said. She tried to hurry through it. I asked to speak to her manager and told him that their sales practices were deceiving. And they lied to me telling me it would cost me nothing. Yeah, for the first 30 days, then it's automatic monthly fee. The manager wouldn't even talk to me, he hung up. I even have my number on the no call list. All of my business calls are forwarded to my cell phone and these aholes COST ME MONEY everytime they call me.

lpwhandyman,

This is the same call I get all the time, they speed up their talking and try to trick you.

The best way to handle it is immediatelly say "not interested", and hang up.

On a similar note, I get an ad in the mail all the time from "yellow pages" which looks like a bill. another scam.

When I get the out of state caller on the caller id I answer before my voice mail does and I let them here my personal answering machine, ''You know the routine you have reached the machine leave a message after the click''........click when I hang up
