Softball Fields

Has anyone here ever worked on a sports field? I have a job coming up this year to get one back in shape and was wondering what kind of seed to use. Its in the sun most of the day and obviously will be well traveled. I need something I can keep short and will be drought resistant. There are no sprinklers on the field so I will be relying on rain to keep it moist. Any thoughts?

It depends on grass types in your area, specifically what is already there to work with. Overseeding will most likely be a necessity. Typically, sports fields will require several fert applications throughout the season with limited pesticide useage. If turf-type tall fescues are common in your area they would be a good seed choice due to wear tolerance. They are also very dought tolerant. Aeration is also a regular practice, especially in the higher traffic areas, at a twice per year minimum.
