I'm thinking of running two crews next year, one of them is going to be mowing 1/2 acre lots or less. What type of equipment would you run on this crew? 36in and a 48in? Do you guys think this is a good idea of having a crew just for these types of yards? Also I will be needing a crew Foreman next year too. How much do you guys pay your foremans?

2 48's and a 32 for gates. if its wideopen mowing, 2 48s is fast, if its gated, a 48 and a 32 is as fast as you an get on small lots. plus the two trimmers, two blowers, etc

I would run a 48 and a 36, 2 trimmers, 1 stick edger, 2 back pack blowers. Thats a combo thats hard to beat for 2 guys.

Def. a Z-Turn (bigger, better) if you have a spare. With a 36 w/ sulky and a 21, just cause some gates are sized by morons. Two trimmers, two blowers, edger. Foreman should get $1.50 to $2 more. I dont know about a crew just for just this type...i like to set aside certain days. That way we're focused on big job days, and not in a rush. Like Fridays, and Mondays. But hey its your company.

I was just going to say the same thing, it's a no brainer: 48" minimum.

Ok, but why should I pay for this mistake?

Ok topsites, don't know how many gated lawns you have mowed, really don't care. BUT me and my experiences with gated lawns I have found that my 36" that I bought for gated lawns is sometimes a inch too wide to fit. So i carry a nice self propelled push mower to eliminate any possibilities that a contractor built a gate that was 34" and not 37" wide. If I were to run a crew just on 1/2 acre and smaller you could bet you sweet yams I would have a 20 something inch on the load.
