How effective will a 1/2 ton truck be at towing a 14 ft open trailer with a 36 in walk behind, a 60 inch ztr, and all handhelds, gas cans, etc. Im thinking of buying a 1/2 ton for now as i am growing my business. Then in a couple years stepping up to a 3/4 ton. Im working out of a 1995 nissan pickup that is basically the size of an s10. It pulls my 5x8 with 52 in ztr and 21 in push mower fine but struggles with any highway pulling at all.

Might as well get a 3/4 now!

but a 1/2 ton should pull that fine

I have a 1/2 ton chevy and i tow a 12' trailer with a 48 walker and a 61 rider and it doesn't feel like I am towing anything. I also have towed about 2 tons of dirt on my trailer many times, I think you should be fine.

It should be fine, but if you got the money to invest, a 3/4 ton will be a better bet.

I have three half tons I've pulled my trailers without issues from them for almost two years. Here is my Ford pulling my smaller rig. This is a 98 4.2 v6 Ford F-150 I currently use a 01 silverado with a 4.3 all the trucks are autos.

Wow. I am impressed. My 97xl, big red(1997-2009 RIP) as I called it, didn't do well with a 5x10, 26inch snapper, and the gravely walk behind.....

I've had 2000lbs of concrete in the bed before. I know its no where close to being safe doing so but it did it.

If you get a 3/4 ton with a 5.4 you get the same transmission as a 4.2 1/2 ton.
