hello i just bought a 36 in scag and was wondering if an 11 horsepower engine would have enough power. the original engine was a 12.5 kohler

    thank you for any help,
    George

I've never tried it, but I doubt I would. Sometimes the crucial difference is not so much the horsepower, but the torque. You may find that you've bought and installed an engine that just isn't what you want. I think it's better to spring for $100 more now and be sure of getting what you want.

I think it would probably work fine as long as the grass wasn't real thick/tall.

If its a 11 briggs, try for the 12 at least. Or 14 KAWI.

    the 11 is a bored out 8. the 12 is a larger block. A 14 Kawi

or14 vanguard much better. Try Small engine warehouse
    for best prices. Ed

It will probably work fine but if you plan on riding on the back of the mower then I would not do it. I can remember when the 48s came with 12 hp motors then we all started riding velkeys and that seems to have ended that.

11 hp would probibly be enough if the grass wasn't out of control but don't expect it to pull you.
