I have Briggs & Stratton 12hp I/C engine on a small 32" walk behind. It is just over 2 years old. today after starting it and running for about 5 minutes a section of the engine block about 1 1/2" by 2" broke out!! It is past its warranty and the place I bought it at has since closed. First does anyone have any ideas on what happened and next is there a good place to buy a repacement engine? The part of the cast aluminum case that broke was only 1/16" thick. Which seems awful thin. If anyone has any ideas on where i should go from here it would be appreciated.

Sounds like you slung a rod..--Buy a used murray lawn mower and take the motor off of it.I sold a 93modell,I bought new, 2 yrs ago for 200.00 and guys still using it.:(

As Grassdaddy said, find a motor from a used Ride on. You should hear it run B4 you part with your dollars. Listen for any rattles as you accelerate the motor from idle. Look for smoke from start up.
See if there is a chassis related reason for the Ride-on to be not-worth-fixing. Sell the wheels to some kid for a go kart! Then keep your eye on the oil level from now on.

    Good Luck.
