My 16 Briggs Vanguard has always had some oil in the air filter housing. But today a large amount of oil poured out of the bottom of the air filter housing onto the mower deck cover. Is there a crankcase vent on this engine that may be clogged causing an excessive amount of blow by? What else might have caused this? I have various other seal leaks which makes me think that it could be caused by excessive pressure in the engine. Thanks for your help!

I would have to say it could be a couple of things. First off and the easiest to find is to check your oil level. To much oil can cause the problems you are having.

More than likely the culprit is the breather assembly. Kohler has also had numerous failures with the same results as what you have explained.

If oil level is ok, replace the breather. Besides, there is no other way for the oil to get to the carb other than through the breather.

    Good Luck!

A blown head gasket could cause this.
