Well I just bought this tractor this morning, a 1977 John Deere 300. It has a rough 48" deck, so it will be replaced. It is burning a lot of oil so I'm planning to rebuild the engine in the next month or 2. Other than that, it is in great shape! I got it for 1/2 the guy's asking price. payup

Well I've been doing the footwork for the rebuild and so far so good. Looks like I'll have about $500 or $600 in the engine once I'm done and then a newer deck should run about another $150, then clean it up and paint and apply new decals and put the shine on 'er and then I'll basically have a mechanically new JD Heavy Duty Garden Tractor for a little over $1000, compared to my original plan of buying a new 2210 for $13,500. I strongly believe once I finish this one it will be good for another 28 years of use. payup
