Can any of you tell me if this was a good or bad year of 350ci. engines. I test drove a 1978 3/4 ton truck today. Had a 350ci. 4 bbl.w/ 164,000 miles. It's didn't smoke when started and ran very SMOOTH. Only thing I did notice was it didn't have much out of the hole, but seems to never really WIND out. Maybe a 3.73 or 3.42 rear? Thanks for your input.

Offhand, can't think of any specific "problem areas" with those engines. Are you sre it's the original engine though? Just curious, because I know how many modifications I've done to my old 1975 truck - and how many miles it's travelled.

Automatic or standard trans? At a guess, I would say around 3.73 gears in the rear end since back in '78, 3/4 tons were still a TRUCK, designed with lugging/pulling in mind.
