I love my '94, gets pretty good mileage and the 4.9 I6 are pretty bulletproof. I'm at 200K with mine, they just keep ticking. I paid $2K for a '94 with 195K miles and a 5 speed.

Might br the best engine ever made......can see 300,000.....You HAVE to get it with the 5 speed or you will be best friends with the clutch guy. BY the way......it will outpull the 5.0 V8

I don't know if I would go as far as best engine ever made, but it's the best one Ford ever put in a truck. 7.3 Powerstrokes would be the only other thing even close to being on par with it, and they aren't that close.

Ditto on this, Ford may have yet one best engine coming out in future but in history, the 4.9, 300 I-6 has made one of the best from Ford. period, that 4.9 has distinctive humming sound that none has, and it pulls EVERYTHING under the sun! there is no timing belt cause they are gears, simple water pump, alternator, everything and they are super easy to maintain, put 5.5 qt of Amsoil 10w30, changed every 3800-4000 miles and it lasts longe than you. Maintain and check gear box and rear diff yearly, change coolant fluid, simple brake pads to change, pretty much do it yourself kind a truck, parts galore. If you can find one with 80-100k miles on its engine and body, I would snatch it cause there is nothing better than that, or you want car payment of $4-500 on new trucks?
