I'm looking for a medium sized dump truck. There is one of these and it has a 5.7 gas auto and 27k miles listed for $18,800. Any input on these trucks? i'd assume its rated for about 3 tons? I have the same engine on my 1993 one ton i use now but will it be powerful enough? Thanks for the input.

I don't thnk the 5.7 has enough power....You would need atleast the 6.5 diesel or like the new 4500 and 5500 have the 8.1 or Duramax.....And what year is the the truck you are looking at???

The 350 will probably okay but it will drink the fuel. The 4500 Cab over should be good for 6000lb payload. I don't know if I would pay 18 grand for a gas powered GMC cabover thou.

You need to check out the used equip section. One guy has a '97 w3500 w/ 14k for $8600... sounds like a steal.

A 5.7/350 will have enough power for any light-medium duty truck as long as it's geared right. yes it will drink fuel but it will get the job done. the 350 was used in alot of the under cdl C-40 c-50 trucks, and recently was used in some C-4500 and cab over trucks. It'll drink as much fuel as any big block b/c it's working harder.

it will work but it wont go any where fast...i have a i ton w/ the 6.0 chevy gasser and that is the limit in my opinion.....in the bigger truck i think it would be better w/ a bigger engine
