Its time for me to get a new truck. Ive out grown my 2500 hd 6.0 extra cab standard bed and want a four door with a contractor combo. Im getting larger install jobs and expect to be hauling more rock and dirt this truck.

Ive read a few post withbyoubguys saying youd stick with gas???? This truck will not be a maintenace truck but stricly installation stocked with pipe, demo tools, and hand tools.

So what do you think.... wise choice or not?

Diesel is cheaper than gas here... now.

I think you can get the v10 in the 450/550. If it's going to be fully loaded w material and tools you will probably be towing a skid also? It sounds like a good match for diesel but the v10 will have no problem just won't pass by too many gas stations. I would imagine you will average around 7-9 with the v10 less if you get the 6.2. 6.7 would probably be more like 10-12. That is assuming you will have a skid steer. Also I wouldn't waste time with a 450, hauling material you will wish you had the extra capacity get a 550

I won't be hauling a skid often... yet. I am getting a 14 foot dump trailer and will use that to haul most of the material. The 550 is an extra 10 Grand, don't know if I need it.

He's in California. They don't have cheap old trucks there like the Midwest.
