I'm wondering if I can put a coat of paint (por-15) on the fins of the two coils on my GX620 engine? I have bit of por-15 left and the fins are quite rusty. I tried to clean but just can't get the rust off. I got the coils sitting on the bench and por works good right over rust..I know the flywheel sides need to be bare..and maybe the bolt holes where it mounts..but what about the rest of the metal legs? The por-15 has minimal shelf life anyway so thought it would be put to use since I can get at the coils. I hate to put rusty parts on a clean engine. Thanks

Aren't those coils made of aluminum?

Yeah, you can paint em as you described.
If ya use a toothbrush type wire brush ( avail at welding supply joints) you can clean up the laminations pretty good.
    Aluminum coils? W.T.F.???
