I have a 23 HP Kaw that has an oil leak. I keep having oil on the filter and
around that part of the block. Does any one have any ideas as to the
problem. Have checked the oil sender just above , but seams to be ok.

I had the old gasket stuck to the block replace the filter and did'nt remove the gasket it leaked .Some time they stick if you over tighten with no oil on the gasket.

Okay, based on what you wrote, I would say that I would first try chaging the filter. When a new filter is put on, make sure you lube the gasket with some new oil. make sure the seat on the block is perfectly clean.
To tighten the filter, turn new filter on until contact with the gasket and then 3/4 turn after that. Do not over tighten or you'll risk rolling the gasket.

This would be my first suggestion to look at.
