Lean carb. A lean burning mix can rasie engine temps a lot. A engine can be ran so lean it will start to melt. It has been know to happen. When you say 'overheat' give a little detail of what you mean by overheating. That may help understand it a little better.

Lean Thats what I was thinking. Is there an adjustment or is it clogged or change jets? Melting protective coating of wires, tickin when real hot.

exhaust leak? correct spark plug? have you taken the sheet metal off of the block to check all of the fins? i assume it has the proper grade and level of oil. check your fuel filter also.

Try Mobil 1 10w30 motor oil. You can also upgrade the oiling system. The newer Kohler 25 has a oil filter adapter for an engine mounted oil cooler. You'll need the adapter, the cooler and the fan shroud.
