Discussion in 'Business Operations' started by MCGRAIL LAWN, Nov 12, 2002.

  1. OK I STARTDER UP MY BUSINESS IS AUGUST OF 2002 (MID. SEASON) AND GOT 10 CUSTOMERS.

FOR THE 2002 SEASON I GOT ABOUT 25 CUSTOMERS BECAUSE I FORGOT TO DELIVER THE FLYERS I HAD PRINTED.

    FOR THE 2003 SEASON
I AM PLANNING ON HAVING THE 25 CUSTOMERS RETURN.

I NOW HAVE ABOUT 5,000 FLYERS I WILL BE DELIVERING (I WONT FORGET THIS YEAR).

I AM ALSO PLACING AN AD THAT WILL RUN FOR 5 WEEKS IN 3 DIFFERNT NEWSPAPERS (1X2 INCH ADD ONLY $18.00 PER WK PER PAPER)

I AM ALSO PLACING A 1X4 INCH ADD IN THE LOCAL PHONE BOOK BUT THAT DOES NOT COME OUT UNTILL OCTOBER SO THAT IS MORE LIKE A 2004 MARKETING THING.

I ALSO HAVE SOME SIGNS MADE UP THAT I HAVE PERMISSION FROM CUSTOMERS ON BUSY STREETS. TO PLACE MY SIGNS ON THERE LAWN FOR A FEW WEEKS.

THIS WILL ONLY BE MY SECOND YEAR AND I AM HOPING TO GO FULL TIME WITH THIS AND WORK 5 DAYS A WEEK NORMALY BUT PROBOBLY 7 DAYS A WEEK WITHNTHE DETHACHING AND AERATION.

CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SOME MORE IDEAS ON HOW TO MARKET MY BUSINESS ANY BETTER.

I HAVE 3 PEOPLE I AM HOPPING TO HIRE TO HELLP ME FULL TIME.

PLEASE LEAVE ANY IDEAS IN THIS POST

    THANK YOU

First, posting in all caps is the equivalent of yelling. Please refrain.

I placed signs in 3 of my clients lawns this fall during a home show. I spent $300 for the signs and got no new clients from that. I think that the only gain from that may be name recognition. I will just have to wait and see. Flyers are good, but everyone does them. Make yours stand out.

How the heck could you forget to pass out flyers? If this sort of thing happens often, you wont get far.

  3. OK I GUESS I JUST DID BOT HAVE THE TIME TO DELIVER THE FLYERS.

MY FIRST MARKETING WAS A SIGN ON MY FRONT LAWN
AND AT ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBERS HOUSE.

I SPEND $15.00 A SIGN AND STILL HAVE THEM OUT ON THE LAWNS.

THEY ARE STILL BRINGING IN PHONE CALLS ABOUT SERVICE

    1. The 1/4 yellow pages ad is worthless. I have advertised in the same book you would be in, and in my experience it is the least effective way to market.

    2. Referrals

    3. Hiring 3 people to help for 25 lawns seems kinda counter productive ?

    4. As far as the newspaper, youll want to keep those ads running for longer than three weeks. Preferably for the whole season.

Twenty-five suburban 1/4 acre lots is less than 2 days work. You will need lots more to employ 3 people.

I think Jason is trying to give him a HINT....lol

I always worry when someone tells me to refrain rather than stop..:)

Lenelle is right, you need more accounts before you hire anyone.....you can knock out 25 stamps in a couple days by yourself...no need to hire anyone just to make it a little faster when all you are realy doing is increasing your expenses and reducing your profit level....of course you can do them a little faster with the help but its not a significant difference and not worth the expense in my humble opinion. knock out those 25 customers in a couple of days and spend the rest of your time marketing.....flyers, signes whatever you have decided to do to get more customers....3 days fully devoted to getting new customers will pay off in the end........I am having a sign made to stand a few feet behind my trailer (when i get one) which will stand about 4 feet by 3 feet and will have red worker flags on the top corners..it will read "Now entering a "Quality Lawn Care area" and will have my company name at the bottom. Am also having a sign made for the back of my trailer (when i get one) that says "follow me to a great looking lawn" ...a GreenPro lawn.
Will have signs to put in the yards as i am cutting which simply say GreenPro and my phone number........and finally, have thought of the idea to put a slot put on the sides of my trailer (when...yea yea) which will extend slightly and be shaped like a tube, i will put flyers in it with a easily readable sign that says No time to stop? To learn more about GreenPro and what we can do for your lawn, please take a flyer...not sure on this one yet, heard it works for a friend of mine who has a powerwashing company...will have to work on the wordage though......anyway..enuf rambling here....
