Anybody have anything to say about this engine? From anyone who actually runs one not from hearsay. Heard it was a gas hog on it's initial release. Did they fix this? I run the 27 now and although it seems to like fuel, I have had no issues with the motor itself.. Thanks guys...

On my 06 Hustler SZ I got 1.4 gph pushing a 66inch deck, mulching kit and all.
I sold it at 11 or 1200 hrs . The only problem with the engine was the coil went bad at 1000 hrs, and you had to choke it everytime to start it.

If I was buying another Hustler I would not have the 30 Kohler. The engine was fine but there were many problems with the way it was mounted causing exhaust pipe cracking, and engine deck plate cracking. On any other brand it might be fine. Also the exhaust needs to be pointed any direction but down burning the grass.

Replaced a 27hp with a new 30hp. 30hp has a little bit more power, uses about the same amount of fuel. Took about 150hrs to break in and stop using oil. So far so good:):):):)

Thanx guys.. I've seen one offered on a PZ for considerably lower $$ than the Kawi 29 and 34. I know a lot are brand loyal but I've never had any issues with the 27 other than a starter.

I have a 66" SZ 30 hp with over 1700 hrs and no major problems. I would recommend.
