I'm wondering if it's worth the extra $400 for a Hustler Mini Z 36". as compared to an Exmark Viking 36". I am more concerned with cut, but speed is also an issue.
Any assistance would be useful! !

this will be my first mower over 21" and I've never driven a large wb, whats the learning curve like, I am already comfortable with a ztr. So I guess versatility is one thing I'm wondering about, and weight is another concern, I have this lawn .88 ac. that has some wet/thin spots, less tracks the better.
    thanks

i just bought the hustler 36'' mini z. ive got about 28 hours on it and so far i like it. its pretty quick, manuverable, and leaves a nice cut. on bahia it leaves stringers but in idaho you wont have that grass. i havent found a gate that i couldnt get into and ive got about 30yards with small gates. as far as mowing soggy yards. i mowed the day after receiving a couple of inches of rain and didnt leave a rut or track in the yards. one actually had standing water that i didnt see til it was too late. at 650lbs and an 8'' tire i guess that was about the right size for that mower. ive also got a 36'' wb although its not a hydro. as far as a learning curve for a walkbehind. if your not using a sulky, its just a really big 21''. with a sulky its just as easy. it will take a couple of yards then you will be comfortable with it. my girlfriend learned to use the wb and miniz after about 5 minutes of instruction and just driving around the yard and now with the ztr she cuts the grass. but all mowers have there quirks. on the mini z i found out the hard way you have to slow down when going downhill and making a turn the short wheelbase causes the inside drive tire too sometimes come off the ground causing you to continue going straight down the hill. i almost ended up in a ditch at one yard and i hit a privacy fence on another. but now i know to slow down and those yards havent been a problem. for $400 more i would definately go with the ztr. and since i started using the miniz the wb hasnt been on the trailer since and its been over 3 weeks. its now just a backup. no more walkbehinds for me.

What are you talking about wet spots in the yard. As a lawncare specialist you are missing work. Tell the guy you can have some white sand brought in and you will fix the wet spots. But, I completely am the opposite of most guys on this eXmark site. Once you try a Dixie CHopper you will never go back to anything else.

I have a huster 2052 Fastrak as my ztr and an exmark 36 belt w/b. If I could do it again I would buy the 36ztr instead of the w/b. It is a fatique issue. The w/b simply wears me out sooner. Having said that, the w/b is more forgiving when making improper turns because it weighs less and I have used it on wet lawns that would have been rutted with the ztr.

It might have been a pro Exmark site but you have to search long and hard to find a positive Exmark post lately. Where have you been. The new deck has taken a verbal beating on this site. Nothin against Dixie, but this site has been more pro Hustler than anything of late.

the eXmark WBs havn't changed, that viking is the same as its been for a good while. It is a great mower, i know a few people (LCOs) that have them and like them a lot. I like my eXmark WB as well. However, in your case, ide pay the $400 for the Z! Riding instead of walking, and faster too!

I really like my 36 Viking hydro...slap a Velke on back and you can mow pretty fast. But I haven't tried the Hustler so can't compare...why don't you try to demo them both??
