I have a customer that wants me to put down 4 pallets of sod. He'll buy sod, I rend a sod cutter to remove old grass and put it down. He'll generously pay me $370 for all of that. Am I being ripped off? lol

    Are you serious?

I was asked to go in one day with the cutter and a dump truck, remove it all and come back the next day, sod will be there and just drop it on top of dirt and call it a day.

What would you and others charge?

You can figure your overhead and charge by the foot. I charge .20/ft. or do a day labor rate. You are going 2 days thats $750-$800. Then again thats my area.

depends on how many yards are on a pallet..
our pallets are $50 yards... we get at least $75.00/ pallet if layed by hand...

for you to rent a sod cutter, cut out the old sod, hual it away, and lay the new sod you should be getting at least twice that ammount....

to cut out, hual away and dump that much sod we would charge at least $400-500 plus a tipping fee.
then for the laying of the sod we would charge $300..

you are getting ripped off big time...

the sod cutter will run you about $50.00, then time and fuel in the dump truck and then tipping fees.......

if we wert to do the job we would provide the sod... no way around it.

we would then be charging about $1200.00

without the sod we would come in about $800.00 for the labor.
