Whats this i see about a 37HP Kawi V-twin in the ferris 3100Z. Is that a typo? I am really beginning to think the mower companies are getting into an automotive like HP war...

That is not a typo. Kawasaki just came out with 31, 34, and 37 hp big block gassers.

yup, don't know anyone who is using the 34hp yet, but Gravely is also using the 31hp on 260,266, and 272 xdz units and Wright is using the 31 and 37 on the new Stander ZK's as the only options available.

Do you think big block will mean big fuel consumption? ZTR's are getting pricey as it is at 3-5$ an hour in fuel...

I wouldn't think it would use any more than the big block Vanguards.

I've never owned a big block vanguard either, I was just wondering if big blocks are gas hogs like big block cars are...

    27hp AC Kohler 2.2
    25hp AC Kohler 2.2
    31hp LC Van/Diah TD 2.1

31hp LC Kohler EFI LC 1.6

3GPH at $4 per gallon is gonna get expensive.

Alot of companies are running the 31-37 hp kawis. Wright is using them. Country Clipper (of all companies ;)) is using them. Arens is starting to use them. Feris just started, And I know of a few others that are but havent released anything on them yet.

Its the HP wars :weightlifter: I honestly dont thing anyone needs a 37 hp Kawi on anything cept for mabey a 72" in verry thick mowing conditions. Even then, it seems a little over kill to me.

And I also read where Dixie Chopper has a 38 hp Kohler! Thats a new one to me also.

I would agree that some of these mowers are overkill. If you're mowing grass that is so tall you need 37 hp; get a tractor & bushhog. In my experience, a 25hp on a 61" deck is sufficient 90% of the time. A little extra would be nice while cutting longer grass, going uphill, and bagging it at the same time, but 2-3 would be plenty of extra.
