Ran a 48 inch deck for last week. My 52 was in the shop. The 48 seemed more maneuverable, fit on the trailer better, liked the smaller wheel base of the 48 but did not cut wet grass as well.

It's lighter and smaller. Kinda explains why it handles better and fits on the trailer better.

Most 48" run 19 hp or less and 52's are in the mid 20's for hp. That might help explain the better cut in the wet.

    The 48 was a 23 horse, the 52 a 25 horse power. These where Toro G3's.

Could be as simple as a belt slipping.

My experience has been the 60 decks cut the best then the 52 then 48 and so on. The 36 decks cut great too. Not sure why. I have a 48 metro and love how I can fit in to tight spots. It cut good but now as well as when I had my lazer HP with a 52 deck. Same trivantage deck. I demoed a scag ride with a 52 deck then a cheetah with a 61 deck and the 61 was way better than the 52. I went 12 mph with the cheetah and around 6 with the v ride

Im so glad we bought 52 and 48" mower's. We can fit those mower's just about anywhere. We have several places a 52" just fits with a bagger system.
