I found an 48" Exmark Viking and a 48" John Deere 7H17. They are both in good shape, originally purchased in 2010 with less than 100 hours, and come with velke's. The JD is pistol grip and is significantly farther away, but it has a floating 7iron deck. The Viking is not a floating deck, but it has the ECS controls and is much closer. The price is about the same for both...any thoughts from the experts? I'm looking for something that I can use for hills and will last a long time.

Any luck on your decision? I am in a similar situation.

No decision yet. I am leaning towards the Exmark, but would still be interested in some opinions from anyone who has experience with both units.

I have a 48" Viking and it is a amazing mower. My vote is for the exmark. Exmark to john deere walk behinds is like comparing a mercedes to a hyundai.

Id factor in what your parts situation is, aside from that the exmark has a great deck. And between pistol grips or ECS id keep looking for a Toro or Hustler. Best of luck to you.
