4wd problem 2000 f250

    i put my 200 f250, manual locking hubs into 4wd first time this season and experienced a slight grinding noise while moving. it was in 4 wheel but the sound got worse like a clicking that increased as i excellerated. truck was fine in 2wd. any ideas/ thanks. barry

    I would start with looking at the hubs, they most likely are the ones that stay in the auto set position most of the time then when your plowing switch them to the manual setting. They are very prone to grinding and stripping out.

    I have had several trucks with locking hubs. It would seem that when they are locked out over the summer they tend to freeze up then when you try to engage them they dont go all the way in. They arent that complicted to pull apart. Just clean and grease everything and you should be ok. They might eventualy fall into place on their own but this is not the kind of luck I have.
