what are your guys opinions on the 5.4 in a 3/4 ton? There is a 1999 ford f-250, 5.4 triton with an automatic, and 140,000. for 7,000. I didn't know if it would be a good investment or if it would start having problems, because of the mileage. Any input would be great. thanks

Its a good reliable engine...long lasting. Not big on power though.

It will tow a landscape trailer full of mowers fine. Definitly struggles to pull my dump trailer full of mulch or debris. It will pull it, just slow.

When my 7.3L Powerstroke was down The Ford dealer gave me a loaner F-250 with the 5.4L what a total SLUG. Get a V10 if your hung up on gas

Speaking of the v10...my brother had one and chipped it. WOW that truck did well in the power department. Other than that, I've got a 5.4 and I think it does just fine. I dont like to race around with a trailer and I live in the flat country, so it is not a problem to me. I have had no problems, other than minor things like thermostat ect.

but my 5.4 is in the 150.....does the 3/4 have different gears?

Correct, with that mileage, providing it's even true that truck should sell cheaper.

And it's not a slug, does just fine unless you want to weekend drag race it. Durable and reliable apart from ejecting plugs on pre-2003 engines and various idle problems.

Find one with a high axle ratio and you're a winner.

5.4 is a great engine. Doesnt have the best speed in the 3/4 tons, but they will run for 250k miles. and like mentioned before, they will tow a good 18ft with a couple z's and a walkbehind no problem. If you want good power tho in a gasser, then the V10 is the winner. 7k is a bit to high for the truck your talking about unless its a nice crew cab lariat 4x4.

I had a 2000 F250 reg cab With a 5.4 and a 5 spd. Had 175K on the clock when I traded it. Still ran like a top. Didn't burn any oil. Power was fine for a couple z's. Wouldn't win and races, but was not a slug.

hey thanks guys for the responses. what do you think a fair price would be for it? it's a crew cab, and the box is pretty scratched on the inside.
