We are in the process of bidding a tie wall job but all the suppliers are out of 6x6x8 oak ties. They have 6x6x8 pine ties. They are like $2 more a tie but will they work just as good as the oak ties.

Oak does not hold up to ground contact very well. And I have yet to see oak timbers that are treated.

Whatever you use, you want wood that is treated and acceptable for ground contact. I don't know what the AC2 equivalent is (haven't had to deal with the AC2 yet), but when it was CCA, you wanted the .60 CCA treatment, not the .40. The .60 made the timber heavier by a few pounds each, but they would last longer than the .40's.... Like I said, I'm not sure what the new equivalent is....

    HTH.
