I'm currently running all exmark equip...absolutly love them!!! The 27hp LQ Kaws are proven to be great engines...however, I've been considering switching to diesel...don't want the junk (Briggs) Dihatsu diesel exmark offers. Ferris offers a 33.5 hp Cat diesel. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have the 28 hp cat diesel with the 61" ferris and it is awsome. Yeh it is a beast. That engine will not bog down. I have cut chest high grass and only had to slow down from full speed becauset the deck wouldn;t handle it. The enginge never did bog down. I am sure that th 33.5 is just even better.

I have a dihaustsu exmark and would not buy another, in fact I would not buy another diesel mower. I bought a 72" xs 31hp briggs a/c vanguard and love it, I am fixing to add a 35hp 72" xs this year. The big briggs have unbelieveable power. I also use about 1-5/16 to 1-1/2 gallons per hour in fuel, where as my diesel gets about 1 gal hour. Not worth the extra $$$ for the diesel.

Not even a question. Buy the Ferris. The 4 wheels suspension alone makes it a far superior machine and ride, and the motor is also a step above Exmarks. You won't find a weak piece of anything on that Ferris, what a beast and it cuts very well for it's deck size. We used one for 2 weeks last year, tough to give it back

Before you buy a Ferris with a Cat. engine, be sure you can get the engine serviced in a timely manner at your Cat dealer. Around here, the Cat dealer does not want to fool with "lawnmower" engines, and puts them at the very bottom of the list for repairs. They would rather fix the big machines they sell, than fool with fixing a little engine on a mower they did not sell. This problem is not just a local problem, it is a problem in many parts of the country. Cat dealers are a pretty arrogant bunch as a whole.
As one who has owned several diesel machines, and now, as a dealer, I would recommend either Grasshopper, with the Kubota engine, or Dixie Chopper, with the Yanmar engine.
Note, I am a Grasshopper dealer.
