going to convert 03 f350 crew cab short box (6.75ft") to flatbed. I would like to go with 8 ft bed.anyone done this? can existing frame be added on to support additional overhang? any input appreciated.
    thanks Randy

A 8 foot deck will look funny on a short box crewcab. You can put it on you just need to make frame extensions so the deck will be supported. You can have 12 inches of overhang on the deck if its strong enough. If the long sills are strong enough you could leave the deck overhang but if you do put something heavy on the tail of the deck there is a risk of bending.

Keep in mind you need minimum 3 inches of clearance between the cab and flatdeck for frame flex. A P/U box doesn't have that because it doesn't need it but a flatbed does. If the headache rack on the flatbed comes in contact with the cab it can damage it.

So with that being said I would go with a 7 foot deck.

i appreciate the info Gravel Rat. i did not think about the extra clearance between deck and cab on top of the overhang.7ft sounds like the way to go.
    thanks Randy
