Hi, I have a 8hp briggs on a Gilson snow thrower it had a leaky bowl and would sometimes die after 15 min of running when hot, like it was starved for fuel and then restart fine after 2-4 minutes of sitting, so I took it apart cleaned and put it back together now it will run fine on high but not on 1/2 throttle down to low idle. Ive tried adjusting main needle starting at 1 1/2 turns out and idle from 1/2 turn out all the way to 1 1/2 turns out. before it would idle all the way down to low fine. Any ideas on the problem?
    Thanks

It appears that you fixed the "problem" if it now idles fine.
Typical screw adjustments are in the 1-/1/4 to 1-1/2 turn range.

no the problem is now it doesnt run on low throttle only high it starts to run bad around 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and dies around 1/2 or less throttle.

Look for vacuum leaks on all of the intake/carb mount gaskets. That appears to be an older engine, so check for bushing wear on the throttle shaft.

I don't know how you cleaned this carb but if you find no vacuum leaks as Bill stated tear the carb back down.

Spray all ports/passages and jets out with carb & choke spray cleaner with the little straw.

Did you check/clean the fuel tank and flush the fuel line then replace the fuel filter ?

what would cause lots of oil to blow out the breather tube and fill the crank with gas. doesent burn any oil but just poors oil out the breather it has a new intake valve seal it is a 8hp briggs off a little wonder blower is this 2 issues? or the problem causeing both probs?

The float valve in the carb is not shutting off fuel flow (carb floods), If the unit is parked with the intake valve open fuel will run into the cylinder and seep past the ring end gaps into the crankcase. Once the (how ever much fuel in the tank) fills the crankcase it raises the oil level too high in which will blow oil/fuel mix through the breather into the carb air intake or filter assembly.

Repair the carb clean/replace the float needle valve then change the oil and that should solve the problem.

Ok I took out spark plug to take a look and looked inside it was kind of black and sooty looking so I sprayed some carb cleaner in, when I did I was surprised to see it running down the outside of the cylinder coming out of the head gasket as fast as I could spray it in.
Sooooo is there any trick to doing a head gasketaaaaaa/, anyone know the torque sequence or specs? Is there anything to look out for when doing it?
    Thanks
