anyone know how much a 97 chevy 1500 4x4 8 ft bed with a 4.3 v6 can tow?
Is it an auto or manual? What gear ratio in the rear end? The manuals in GM trucks are rated to tow less than trucks equipped with an auto trans. If this truck is an auto with a 3.73 rear end, I would say the tow rating would be around 5000 pounds. With the maual trans, it probably would be around 4,000. I traded in a Silverado 4x4 with a 4.3 V6 about 2 months ago for another Silverado with the 4800 V8. The 4.3 did a respectable job, but the V8 gets it done better. Now if only I could swing a diesel.
