    Sweet thread. Are you in the National Guard when needed and work landscaping the rest of the time?

    Can't sleep, excited for the snow tomorrow. Here are a few from my ReClass training to 21 Super Echo, again being a military base it was a crappy site. I just learned how to use the snapfish thingy on my phone.

    Swampy,

    I have been looking at some used military equipment. The hours/mileage is EXTREMELY low for it's age. Is this accurate, or do the guages just not work and getting them fixed is not a priority?

    No, they have to get the hour meters and gauges fixed, its part of the PMCS (Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services). While it doesn't deadline the equipment, unless fuel gauge.

    The reason most have low hours is the US Military is constently rebuilding/remanufacturing its equipment to extend its so called service life. Most equipment and trucks will go through at least 2 or more rebuilds in its life, its a combination of hours/age. With reserve equipment its a age that attacks the equipment, while's started every month and it runs for a bit but its not worked such as active duty equipment. When equipment is rebuilt the hours/mileage is usually reset.

    Maintenance is to the point of anal with equipment, the military uses a class leak system. Class 1 is a seep or area of wetness, still operatable, Class 2 is where a drip forms but does not hit the ground, still operatable but requires constent checks on fuilds and visual checks, Class 3 is where it leaks forms a drop and hits the ground, this is deadline and not able to operate (Any class fuel leak is a deadline issue).

    I was looking at a 10 wheeler dump truck...but the 5 ton trucks caught my eye. I bet they would make a heck of a plow truck. The 5 ton trucks were going for less than 2 grand.

    Back when i was in active Army(long time ago:) ) as long as you had work scheduled like oil leaks and parts that needed replaced, on order then the machine wasn't deadline.

    Key here was as long as it was in the log book !!!!!!! machine would't move(in motor pool) but part was on order or back ordered it was on the ready list not deadlined.

    We had more machines in the motor pool that was not able too move then was able!

    Company went on field exercises and lost three machine(tanks) before they hardly got out of the motorpool.The llog book said they was ready tho ,but in reallity they wasn't.Paint look real good !!!!:laugh:
