A ford that needs ball joints, who knew? :)

    Big surprise, I need new ball joints on my 89 F150 4x4.
    However, as I was looking around, I came upon Performance Suspension Technologies website, and for $280 they give you their polygraphite ball joints, outer tie-rod ends and some other goodies. That's only $80 more then the quote i got for mororcraft and carquest moog ball joints. I'm also under the impression that polygraphites are much superior to regular rubber components. Does anyone have any feedback on this? Is polygraphite really better or is it just snake oil? I read some of the articles from the car magazines discussing how good they are, but...

    anytime, i saved 200 on wheel bearings for my truck over the napa price locally. not to mention they were OEM replacement timken bearings. not some cheapo off brand parts...

    Krazy-
    It was sarcasm, all fords have bad ball joints, its just a matter of time! And unless they have been done recently, I would say 85% of older fords all have bad ball joints, its just the nature of the bad design. I was just trying to see if anyone had used the polygraphite ball joints, and whether they were that much better.

    Tell me about it... I have replaced my f250's ball joints at 10k and the stabilizer rods at 12k and I'm starting to hear them going bad again at 30k...looks like a yearly thing. I do have a warranty plan and they only cost $100 deductible a pop. I do plow snow all winter though and that takes its toll I'm sure.

    Wow way to spread wrong ******** information. Theres no "bad design" on ford ball joints. I have 200k on my 1990's and I wheel the truck offroad just about every weekend, bouncing the front end off the ground.

    And yes rockauto.com is a good website. I've ordered from them. Google search "rockauto coupon" for a 5% off coupon.

    i had a 2000 f-350 replaced ball joints at 65000 factory ones werent greaseable neither was the replacement ones.

    I sincerely believe that I am not spreading bad information. I love Fords, I have three right now, a 92 Ranger with 102,000 an 89 F150 with 128K and my 92 with 88K. All three need ball joints. My friends 97 F350 7.3 needs them every ~50-70K miles. his 03 F250 about the same. The Ford Truck Forums are filled with posts discussing the design. Every vehicle has its weak points, this just happens to be Fords. I'm glad your ball joints have held up, but please don't take your exception as the rule.
