I'm putting in a bid on a major steak house chain. After I measured the property I came up with 4487 sq ft of area for mulch. The company I buy my mulch from converted that to 400 yds of mulch at 2in thick. My question is does that number sound to big? I have never put in a bid on a property this size. I guess I have size shock at the amount of mulch that is required.

    Thanks in advance,

They are way off. Those measurements come to 28.26 yards. Trying to put it down at only 2 inches is gonna be kind of tough btw. Install it at 3 inches instead. That will be give ya almost 42 yards to put down.

I have always used the formula that 1 yd will cover 80sf of are at 3"-4" thick. If you are only going 2" think I would think that 1 yd would cover 160sf??? By that math you are looking at alot less than 400YDS???? You might want to do the math again....

Yea 400 yards is unreal, I would get someone to blow 400 yards in with a truck mounted blower. Doing 400 yards any other way is silly, unless we have a drought and you need work to keep the guys busy.

4487 square feet / 9 square feet per square yard = 498.5555 square yards
    2" Depth = 2" / 36" per yard = .05555555 yards deep
    498.5555 square yards X .0555555 yards deep = 27.69 cubic yards @ 2"
    3" depth = 3" / 36" per yard = .083333333 yards deep
    498.5555 square yards X .08333333 yards deep = 41.5461 cubic yards @ 3"
    30 yards at 2"
    45 yards at 3"
    it's a chain????
4487 square feet seems like it might be one location to me
your talking about an area thats basicaly 45 x 100 ft???
    23 x 200????
    5 x 1000
    How Many stores???

    Thank you everbody,

I really do appreciate it. I thought 400yds seemed like a lot of mulch. No wonder they were smiling when I left.

    petekief,

Thanks, for the formula. Right now it's just one store.

LxWxH/27= cubic yards Dont forget to convert height to inches(.0833 = 1 inch)

    4,486 x 1 x .1666(2 in.) = 747.3676/ 27 = 27.7 yards.
