I'm planning on aerating my lawn either the end of aug. or first of sep.I was going to overseed and fertilize after i aerate.Would it be better if i aerate and fertilize first, then wait and rent a slit seeder and over seed at the end of september? Thanks

One thing that can happen if you aerate then plant seed is that the seed will gather in the holes and the result can be a ugly pattern of random grass clumps. We over seed with rye in the fall and fertilize immediately before it comes up with a starter fertilze.

you aerate, put seed down with a spreader, then put down starter fertilizer in the fall?
