My business is growing and I decided to purchased a used commercial Zero-Turn over a homeowner model based on the advice on this site. I'm about to pull the trigger on a used 48 inch Scag Tiger Cub with a 19 hp Kawasaki engine and 1400 hrs on it for $2800 dollars. The seller claims that there is nothing wrong with the machine and it is ready to go. Based on the pictures, the machine looks well taken care of. I've never owned a zero turn before so is this a good deal and what should I look out for when testing the machine. Any info would help, thanks.

Owning that very model I can say that's a fair price for a great machine. Very solid. The only things that are probably wore are the steering dampeners. The forwards are 60 a pair and reverse 25. Very easy to work on. Parts readily available. Just keep her cleaned and those spindles greased. Buy a auto brake spring tool for all the springs that keep the belt tension. Use factory filters and syntheic oils in engine and hydro. Mulches great. You will like it. Proper care and you will get another 2000 hrs no sweat. Biggest engine prob is coils. Cheap and easy to replace. I do recommend removing the shroud and doing a thorough cleaning of the top end and fins. The breather is under the flywheel so it can get sloppy in there and cause hot running.

Quality Allen Wrenches may be needed to remove the top fan under the fan-guard. They now have some torx wrench style screws/fasteners that will be easier to remove in the future. Check with your local KAW dealer for these torx style screws.

We have the same mower except ours has a 20 hp kohler command pro engine on it rather than the 19. It really is an amazing mower and as for the price, I think that is fair market value. You should be able to get many years ou of that mower without a problem
