Does anybody have the 5.3L V8 in the new 2007-2008 silverado's? I'm looking at a new chevy 1500, and its got the fuel management system where 4 cylinders cut off when not in need. Does anybody tow with this engine on a daily basis? How is the fuel efficiency? They claim 15/20 on the sticker. I got a 16ft enclosed trailer that I tow with the 4.3 V6 right now.

I'v heard of people getting that type of mileage, but can you imagine your repair bill of something were to go wrong with the cylinders? It's one more thing that could go wrong, and the worst part is that its the main component of your truck. I know its under warrenty and all, but what about down the line? personally, i'de stay away from it.

you think it would be a hassle in the long run? I'm only keeping my trucks for 5 years or so.

I dont see that helping much while pulling a trailer. All of the cylinders will have to be on most of the time.

    True.

Well, i guess if its in the warranty period, you won't have a problem, but anything longer then that.... I wouldn't chance it.

But I totally see your concern. Its new and this is the first year out for Chevy. Think I'll wait till 2009 maybe? Also I guess towing would keep the 8 cylinders on all the time. So if any have the 5.3 V8 how is its fuel economy?

my father owns one. a 2008 4wd double cab. We have takin a few trips with it and I average 21 mpg. it has pretty decent power as well. I have towed a 6000 pound enclosed with it and it averaged 14 to 15. and yea it wouldn't help at all while pullin a trailer

My aunt had the HEMI with the MDS and it didn't work at all, mileage sucked.
15 mpg tops, my 4.7 V8 Dodge gets around 21 now. I would wait for a few years until they have the technology perfected-sort of.
