adding topsoil around redbud tree

    Hi i have a customer that has a redbud tree in front lawn the roots are about 2inches above ground is adding topsoil and reseeding around the tree the answer Thanks

    How old is the red-bud tree ???? The only reason I ask that is potentially it might be at the end of it's life-span if the roots are pushing up that badly. Might be a good time to up-sell, and rip it out and plant a new one.

    You can put dirt over the roots, but, you can potentially kill the tree. If too much dirt is laid down, then you can bury the surface roots and suffocate the tree. Also, you don't want to put any dirt up against the trunk as you might girdle it.

    Now, with that said, I've added an inch or so around larger trees and haven't had any issues to speak of, so, it's a risky proposition at best.

    Remove the turf around the tree, mulch it, and if there is irrigation, manage it properly.
