Aerate or Seed first?

For years I always aerated then seeded, but today I tried it the other way around, don't ask me why, I just did. It seemed that I got better soil contact. Any thoughts on which would be better, or has anyone seen any studies?

    Thanks

I'm considering doing that same process this week. It would be interesting to hear from others what the results were compared to the "conventional" way. I run over my lawn at least twice with the aerator. I don't know if this will cause an unforeseen problem if the seed has been broadcasted? If anyone has insight on this matter, please advise.

I aerate, apply 1/2 seed, aerate again, and apply other 1/2 of seed. In large bare areas, I will take a leaf rake to it for better soil/seed contact.

I lay 1/2 seed, aerate and broadcast the other 1/2 seed.
