Hey guys, just curious how you approach your aeration in regards to sprinklers , shallow phone lines and anything else below the ground. Do you flag the systems ? And this is more in reference to non-regular customers who will just be getting fall renovation work.

    Thanks for any help.

Absolutely flag. If it is for a random customer I will tell them to flag, or if they want I will flag, check after aeration, and aim up for 1 buck per head. This can also allow you to up sell the customer on irrigation repairs or zoning issues that where already in place before you aerate

As far as cable, they should be 6". If not and you hit one, call the cable company and they will fix it. You where not digging, Just performing regular maintenance on the lawn. That's how it works for me in NC

I have always had the customer flag prior to my arrival.

I flag everything myself... customers make excuses when they screw something up and that breaks a good vibe with my clients...

I ask the customer to flag if they have irrigation. No way I would flag cause if I miss a head and spike it, its my fault for not flagging. If customer does it, his bad for not flagging.

Not concerned with utilities, stuff should not be buried only 2-3" deep anyway.

That's a good point, but I know that I will get everything that pops-up and should be able to spot the ones that don't pop-up, whereas the client wouldn't think that one is malfunctioning... also,,, the client will never do it on time so it is always done a day ahead...

I have a document the sign saying that I marked all heads that were functioning and Will not be responsible for damage done to unmarked heads

On my flyer I have a clause that protects me from any damages done. Home depot sells 4x5 flags 100 a pack for $7.25 . It states that every customer will be provided with marking flags to be placed at their discretion marking any buried objects wires etc that may get harmed in the process. If they don't flag I don't pay for damages, but I I damage something that is flagged it would be my fault.
