Sorry about the delay, I just got back from deer hunting. There's no Internet access in the barn I was sleeping in.

Anyway the difference between the AE400 and AE401 is this. The AE401 has a bale that goes all the way around the contour or the upper handle. This allows the end user the ability to move their hands wherever it easiest for them to put them while using the unit.

The AE401 has folding upper handles as well. This is absolutely great if you're trying to save space.

The AE401 has a guard that keeps plugs from flipping up on the engine deck and getting into belts and pulleys.

The AE401 has welded on pulleys and chain sprockets. They can't shift and cause chains or belts to come off.

If you want more information about specific features or you've simply got other questions please let me know

    Sincerely,

    Drew Coates

Thank you for getting back to me,I was in a hurry to find out the difference between the two because I can get a real good deal on a 400H.and needed to act on it or not.
Now since either way I am buying one of your machines is it worth spending around 4 or 5 hundred more for a 401H??? Thanks Mike

    Mike,

That's a hard call. Many of the features are the same. Can you see the unit? We did make running improvements on some of the AE400 units that incorporated the turd guard, and welded sprockets and pulley. If it's got those on it and you don't care about the folding handle it might be a good trade. Personally I find the new bale to be much more durable and user friendly but saving $400 to $500 can be big. If it was my money I'd go for the AE401 but you will still be satisfied with the AE400.

Let me know if there are any other questions.

Well I bought it.I will see what it has when it gets here.I know the handle folds and it has the turd guard and i can weld the sprockets if need be to save 400.00.
