    PGA solenoids will work in a DV valve with the bushing. Then you don't need to change out the valve. I have done it this spring and it is still working.

    Why doesn't rainbird make an adapter:to induce air into the valve through the solenoid port for leak detection purposes?

    Yet a pair of 9 volt batteries (DC) will actuate most valves. :)

    How about a drawing or schmetic of a decoder for educational purposes?

    The unseen parts that are hidden in the potting would help us more easily understand the decoder.

    now that would be cool.

    on a similar thread, where is the hunter tek geek? i have a site that has had close to 20 decoders fail. I'm guessing its the crappy DBYR's that come with the decoder, or a failure in the waterproofing of the decoder itself.
    anyone else using dual's have any issues? i have a few other sites with them and don't have any problem.

    Sorry. Rain Bird's designs are proprietary and we don't share them outside the company. You can imagine that our competitors would love this also. Let them buy them and tear them apart.

    I'm not as curious about the inside of the decoders so much as I am curious about the "protocols" if any, of 2-wire systems across the industry. Is everyone on the same page, or is this like the DVD∓R compatibility wars?

    This is again outside my area of expertise, but I know enough to know that the protocols used have a significant affect on performance. So, this is not likely something that would be shared and standardized in our industry.

    I am unfamiliar with this technique. The fact that I have never heard of it before (I am sure it works great) suggests to me that few would buy this. So, even if we decided it was simply a good tool to provide for free to customers, it would likely fall so low on the priority list of things to assign to engineers to work on that it would never get done.

    I know this is not the answer you were hoping for, but it is reality.

    In my limited experience and in talking to those that do have experience with decoder systems, an overwhelming majority of problems have causes rooted in poor two-wire path issues; bad splices, no grounding, cuts in wire insulation. The wire path on a conventional system is very forgiving of issues like this because we are simply sending power down some wires. Two-wire path is used to send power and communication. Decoder addresses and instructions are embedded in the signal. Flaws in the wire path mess with that signal rendering it useless. In areas with lightning, grounding is absolutely critical. There must be good grounding and protection or things don't work.
