This lawn is mowed very short by the owner and has brown areas this spring. A close up of the grass shows that the brown is coming from a sheath around the new shoots which are green.
The lawn next door has greened much faster, it is also mowed a bit higher.

Kentucky bluegrass greens up more slowly in spring. Some cultivars are worse than others. Could be some snowmold damage here also. Looks like the lawn has some areas of ryegrass also. And ryegrass is also susceptible to snowmold.

snowmold, look at the crown of the plant, it should be starting to green up there. Give the lawn a good raking or thatching, fertilize and watch it grow
